Mission East Dallas receives funding for its new Community and Patient Education Center

The Hillcrest Foundation and Direct Relief awarded funding to Mission East Dallas to support healthcare in East Dallas.

The Hillcrest Foundation, a major supporter in Mission East Dallas’ recent expansion of its medical facilities, has once again provided significant funding to support healthcare in the metroplex. The Hillcrest Foundation provided Mission East Dallas with $100,000 to support its new Community and Patient Education Center, which will serve the community through health, nutrition, and exercise classes; expanded services for health insurance and benefits enrollment; COVID-related community support; and other initiatives.

Mission East Dallas also received emergency grant funding from the medical aid organization Direct Relief, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers. Mission East Dallas was among 518 federally qualified health centers to receive funding through Direct Relief’s $25 million Covid-19 Fund for Community Health, which recognizes the profound effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the finances, services, staff, and patients of community health centers. Mission East Dallas will use these funds to incorporate COVID-related community support in its new Community and Patient Education Center.

Nearly 30 million (1 in 12) of the country’s most vulnerable residents — including 1 in 3 individuals living in poverty, 1 in 5 Medicaid beneficiaries, and 1 in 9 children — rely on federally qualified health centers like Mission East Dallas for their health care. That number is expected to rise as more people lose employer-sponsored insurance.

“We are grateful for this critical and immediate support as Community Health Centers work hard to keep communities safe during an unprecedented pandemic,” said Tom Van Coverden, President & CEO of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). “We are also deeply appreciative of our longstanding partnership with Direct Relief in these uncertain times and their efforts to ensure that health centers confronting multiple challenges in underserved communities have the resources when and where they need them. We know that many donors and contributors have helped to make this fund possible, and we further extend our appreciation to all of them.”

Mission East Dallas is a community health center offering primary medical, dental and behavioral health/counseling services.  Mission East Dallas serves a number of populations including those with and without health insurance.  The sliding fee scale and payment programs allow health care access to literally anyone in the community. Their comprehensive services also make it a wonderful option for the community to have quality healthcare that looks at multiple health issues and improved health management.

“We are grateful to receive such significant support for our Community and Patient Education Center,” said Mission East Dallas CEO, Charles J. Wiltraut. He continued, “This new center will be an amazing space for the community to learn about health and nutrition, and will allow Mission East Dallas to further aid the community through this pandemic.”
